Depending on the city or township, tree protection by laws differ greatly. In most urbans areas you are required to have a permit to remove or injure a tree that is alive and healthy. At Anderstone Tree Service we are happy to help you obtain your permits and complete the necessary paperwork.
In Brampton you require a permit to remove a tree over 30cm in diameter 1.37 meters above the ground unless it is within 2 meters of an occupied building.
There is a non-refundable $50 fee for permit applicaitons.

In Mississauga you require a permit to remove any tree over 15cm (6 Inches) in diameter including dead and dying trees.
The base fee for a tree removal permit application in Mississauga is $343.52 plus an additional $124.14 for every additional tree.
One tree (1.8 meter tall ever green or leaf tree atleast 6" in diameter) must be planted for every 15cm or 6" of trunk on the tree that is removed, for example a tree with a 45 cm (18inch) trunk will require 3 trees planted.
A security deposit will also be held per tree for one year.
There is no base fee for application to remove dead, dying, or hazardous trees.

In Caledon you can remove 20 trees per year with out a permit for personal use.

You do not require a permit to remove a tree in Georgetown or Halton Region.
You can harvest upto 24 cubic meters of wood from a woodlot per year with out a permit.

In Toronto you require a permit for the injury or removal of a tree on private property over 30cm in diameter 1.4meters above ground.
Trees are highly coveted and protected in Toronto, applying for a permit does not guarantee you will receive approval.
You will receive approval for imminently hazardous, terminally diseased or dead trees.

In Vaughan you require a permit to injure or remove any tree over 20cm in diameter at the base of the tree or any multi-stem tree with a combined diameter over 20cm. To apply for a permit you require an arborist report, colour photographs of the tree from close up and far away showing the entire tree, digitally produced plans or drawings of the property including all trees, and a $70 fee.
Also you are required to replant 1 - 4 trees depending on the size of tree you are removing or pay to have trees replanted on city property, unless the tree is deemed to be dead, dying or hazardous.

Currently there is no permit required for removing a tree on private property in Orangeville.

In Guelph if your property is smaller than 0.2 hectares (0.5 acres) you don’t need a permit to remove a tree.
If your property is larger than 0.2 hectares, or 0.5 acres, you require a permit to destroy or injure any tree measuring at least 10 cm in diameter 1.4 metres above the ground.

In Burlington you require a permit to injure or destroy a tree within the urban boundary zone, if the tree is over 20cm (8 inches) 1.37 meters above the ground.

Dead, dying and hazardous trees still require a permit to remove but the fees are waived.
